As a Registered Psychologist in Alberta (#4939) with 13+ years of experience, I provide collaborative, compassionate, and empowering counselling. I focus on client strengths and agency, co-creating ideas for meaningful change. Clients consistently praise my warmth, intellect, empathy, and awesome sense of humour.

I was born in Vietnam and came to Canada with my family as a refugee at two years old. I identify as a Chinese Canadian with Vietnamese roots. I lived in Calgary most of my life and attended public schools. I have a teaching background and have worked with many youth and families in educational and counselling settings.
In my first two years of teaching (2000-2002), I taught with the Little Red River Cree Nation in Northern Alberta. I cultivated strong, meaningful relationships with my students, their families, and the community. Thereafter, I returned to Calgary and taught for the Calgary Board of Education for an additional five years.
After having two children, I decided to return to school to obtain my master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. This decision was prompted by many students who let me know that I am a good listener, relatable, empathetic, and kind. It was one of the best decisions ever!
Going back to school in my early 30s was nerve-wracking, exciting, and fulfilling. I met incredible professors and peers who were encouraging and supportive. I continued forth to obtain a Doctorate in Educational Leadership (2019) and became a Registered Psychologist (2018).
Outside of my practice, I have taught at several post-secondary institutions in Undergraduate and Master’s Programs in Education, as well as in several Master of Counselling Programs. I learn so much from adult learners and consider myself a lifelong learner.
I also supervise Registered Provisional Psychologists in their journey to becoming Registered Psychologists. I find this role rewarding because I am mentoring and learning alongside them to support clients to thrive.
In my spare time, I spend time with my children (17 and 19 years old) and my spouse, who is a high school physical education teacher. We support their academic and extracurricular activities, such as sports and music; we have meaningful conversations as a family. I find relationships with family, colleagues, friends, and peers to be growth-inspiring. I love music and am learning to play the violin, guitar, and piano. I enjoy working out, practicing yoga, golfing, playing pickleball, badminton, volleyball, reading, writing, colouring, and laughing. These self-care activities are crucial in cultivating self-compassion and self-love.
I speak Cantonese and can offer a language bridge.
I offer a collaborative, strengths-based, and compassionate approach. I believe counselling provides new and renewed insight. I take a holistic framework, using the biopsychosocial perspective to consider biological, psychological, and social factors that impact health and well-being. I am passionate about working with clients to explore their challenges, strengths, and resources to support them in thriving.
My clients have told me I am warm, empathetic, and have an awesome sense of humour. I draw from a culturally responsive and socially just lens in my work with clients in areas such as life transitions, relationship struggles, school challenges, identity-related concerns, work-related stress, parenting issues, grief, anxiety, and depression.
I have experience in the single-session model of therapy, brief therapy, and longer-term therapy. I draw from Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Gottman Couples Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Systemic Therapies.
